About Switzerland
Switzerland is famous for its mesmerizing alpine scenery, luxury branded watches, and deliciously milky chocolate. A melting pot of many different cultures, Switzerland is also known for its alluring cities and scenic train rides that showcase the best of the country's natural vistas.
Speaking about a melting pot, one of the famous traditional Swiss dishes is ‘cheese fondue’, which is a melted cheese dish which is eaten by dipping bread into the melted cheese. Other traditional Swiss food would be tarts and quiches, Landjäger sausages, rösti, and of course its delicious chocolate. The Swiss are actually the biggest consumers of chocolate; they ate 10.3 kg. of chocolate per person in 2018. Switzerland is also known for its arts and crafts, mainly watchmaking. The Swiss watchmaking industry is the third-largest exporter in the country, able to employ about 59,000 people and covering 1.5% of the nation’s gross domestic product.
The Swiss climate is vigorously influenced by both the Alps and the Atlantic Ocean, and therefore knows different kinds of climate types. Whereas the highest areas have an Alpine climate, the medium-high areas have a cold continental climate and the lower parts (mostly in the north-west) have a temperate continental climate.
